Ruric Amari
Ruric-Amari is a dancer unlike any other. She has studied dances from around the world for 3 decades and has used her knowledge to create effective presentations of multiple styles of dance as well as beautiful fusion styes. She is known for her exquisite expression, lines, and musicality as well as a mesmerizing use of props such as veil and sword. Ruric has been a professional performer of International dance for 20 years and has taught recreational and professional dancers alike. She uses her studies of Delsarte and constant conditioning to help create effective presentations of multiple styles of dance
After a childhood of recreational dance study in Ballet and Irish dance, she found her first real love in Arabic Dance (Bellydance or Raqs Sharqi). Several years of intense training with local and national teachers followed, and she herself became an active teacher and performer throughout Kentuckiana.
It didn't take long for Ruric's love of International dance to expand and 2007 she began training in the Bharatanatyam (Classical Southern Indian Dance) under the guidance of guru Dr. Vasundhara Doraswamy. After a decade of study including 4 years of intense preparations, she completed her Rangapravesham performance in Karnataka (Mysore) India in February 2019.
Ruric's curiosity continued to find new outlets and in 2012 she began studying Hula and Tahitian dance with Mahealani Uchiyama and Mary-Lou Lafon. It was her honor to be invited to perform (with her teacher's blessing) these beautiful styles of dance in an Interantional Showcase at the prestigious Mysore Palace theatre.
As her love of dance grew, so did her passion for dancing safely. support a healthy dancing body for herself and her students, Ruric completed a 300 hour Yoga Certification course through Orbis Yoga teacher training program as well as a Mat Pilates Certification course through the Lexington Ballet. She also completed the massage program with Louisville School of Massage.
She founded the Samovar Dance Company in 2007 to further explore group performance and cooperation. Students find Ruric's teaching style compelling because it melds together practice, vulnerability, and empowerment to create better dance within the individual. Students study a wide variety of subjects, but some main focuses include FCBD®, Tribal, Cabaret and Folkloric Arabic Dance, Indian dance, mat Pilates and Yoga.
