About me.Performer, teacher, choreographer, entrepreneur, wife and mother. I believe in the dedicated pursuit of spell bounding dance and enriching the community through awareness and entertainment. Dappling in Ballet and Irish as a child, I ended up taking a Belly dance class in high school which lead to a life changing decision to become a professional dancer. My particular area of focus is International dance including but not limited to Raqs Al Sharqi, Polynesian Ote'a, Hula Kahiko, and Bharatanatyam. Over the years, my mission has expanded to include the fusion of dance to suit my vision of sound. I meld all that I learn, see, and feel to create stunning interpretations of music with theme and musicality. Some of my most beloved examples are Sword Dancing, Indic Idiom, Roma Fantasy, and Tahteeb Fantasy.
I ran the Ruric-Amari Dance studio for 8 years and continue to run ongoing classes for all levels. As a teacher I enjoy being able to offer a strong foundation to my students that provides balance between education of culture and movement of body. I employ a mixture of improvisation, choreography, practice, and Delsarte to make dance accessible and enjoyable to all ages and body types. I am currently director of the Samovar Dance Company and use it as an outlet to create amazing dance with amazing dancers. I have had the great honor to be a featured soloist at venues such Ramsi's Cafe on the World, Caffe Classico, Jazz Factory, Worldfest, U of L International Banquet, U of L International Fashion Show, Folk Tours, and many other events throughout Louisville, Indiana, Ohio, and New York. I have been invited back to teach continuing education classes at JCC, U of L, and Bellarmine University as well as being a guest instructor and performer for the annual Mediterranean Echoes. My future projects include solo shows at Caffe Classico and Flamenco Louisville as well as theatre productions, festivals, and dance camps with the Clifton Center and Community Montessori. When not dancing, I spend time with my husband and daughter who continue to teach and inspire me for all the adventures life has to offer. |
