Tune Up and Showtime with Ruric Amari
Wednesday, May 28th 6:15-7:30 PM. Afterparty 7:30-8:30 PM.
Take the time to tune your instrument (your body!) with core work, cardio, engaging, and lengthening. This workshop will start with your powerhouse and extend out until everything has been addressed. Bring water, yoga mat, and yoga belt (or anything to help hold your foot while you extend),
Come for the tune up and stay for the after party. We will watch the videos from the showcase together and talk costumes and finger cymbals. Chilled white wine and non-alcoholic bubbly will be available.

Turkish Delight with Ruric Amari
Wednesday, June 11th
6:15-7 PM Intro and Basics.
7-7:45 PM Groove, Footwork, and Layers
7:45-8:30 PM Combos & Music Exploration.
This workshop is a crash course on the wildly entertaining Turkish Cabaret style. Come learn the unique pelvic movements with roots in Romany folk dance, how to incorporate groove and foot work into your movements, as well as some basic combinations to help showcase transition. We will also briefly touch on the distinct 9/8 rhythm and the slow ciftetelli. Water and hip scarf. Feel free to bring zills.
1st portion is a great option for all levels. It will cover and drill the basics for this style.
2nd portion is great for students looking to continue the understanding of the movements of this style.
3rd portion will need dance experience and a desire to learn and sweat (Must take the 2nd portion to attend)

A Tahitian Affair with Ruric Amari

The summer is in full swing and so are your HIPS! Come learn the art of the beautiful Tahitian Ote'a Vahine. This distinct style uses articulate hip movements and strength to interpret the fast paced drums. You will find that the hip motions used will carry over to the Raqs Sharqi drum solo exquisitely and help clean up your big movements. We will cover technique, drills, and learn a short choreography. Bring water and a fabric scarf for your hips.
