Kill the Drillz
6:15-7:30 PM
All levels.
Exploring 4 ct and 8 ct Arabic rhythms through Raqs Sharqi movement drills including Hip, Chest, and Belly.
Often referred to as 'Bellydance', Arabic dance or Raqs Sharqi is a foundation for a variety of fusion dance styles you see today (including mine). At its core, it is folk dance, something to be enjoyed by the community, which gives a very different sense of style than the younger, more Westernized Styles. This workshop will present the music and dance I first fell in love with and drill the movements that were first brought to the stage, including Hip and Pelvis accents, Shimmies, Belly Rolls, Camels, Circles and more. This is where I started and where I always return.
7:30-8:45 PM
For those with some experience and a strong will for beautiful dance arms.
Reviewing the basics of FCBD (ATS), expanding our que vocabulary, and LOTS of arms and foot work.
One of the first Belly Dance fusion styles that flourished in the United States is known as Fat Chance Belly Dance (FCBD) or formally known as American Tribal Style (ATS). While it can be used as a solo style, one of the unique aspects of FCBD is the ability to improvise dance as a group using ques to communicate pre-set combinations. This workshop will breakdown and drill the most important elements of this style including strong arms and hands, rhythmic footwork and 10 combinations of my choice from all levels.
